Participant,
Main issues discussed
Spirits Europe declared to be heavily affected by EU tariffs on US spirits. They questioned Trade on the process of the Executive Working
Group and on the whole transatlantic strategy.
[Art.4.1(a)]
Trade explained the process launched on 25 July by Presidents Juncker and Trump, aiming at a reduction of tariffs on “non-auto industrial
goods” and at regulatory cooperation. Elimination of tariffs on steel (and of EU rebalancing measures) is equally included in the statements,
although the US has not yet shown any concrete interest in removing tariffs. Unless measures are removed or their form modified, EU tariffs
will remain in force.
Trade invited the business association to increase outreach on the White House and on the Congress, as Treasury Secretary Mnuchin
recently referred to President satisfaction with the “steel plan”.
