Higher education
Brussels,
EAC.B.1/VD
Dear Ms Gundermann,
I thank you for your request for information about studying dentistry in Belgium.
According to Article 165 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, the
Member States are fully responsible for the content of teaching and the organisation of
their education systems. The European Commission supports and complements national
actions, for example through working towards a European Education Area by 2025 and
the Erasmus+ programme.
The recent Council recommendation (2018/C 444/01) on automatic mutual recognition of
qualifications for further learning is a key milestone for further cooperation between
Member States in education. Higher education institutions and national authorities have,
irrespective of the recommendation, the right to set their own specific admission criteria,
such as the language level, for specific programmes.
For information about study programmes, I invite you to consult the following websites.
