Objet: Follow up meeting Confindustria
Dear Valère,
Let me thank again for the meeting we had last week. As promised, I am
writing to you to organize a follow up on the main challenges the Italian
industries will face in the coming years in relation to some of the main
Commission policies proposals. Trying to be concrete and effective, I would
like to touch upon three issues:
· The path towards a sustainable industry, with a focus on the role
chemicals will play in the achievement of the EU green objectives
and the actual impact of the energy transition process on
manufacturing supply chains.
· The automotive sector. As you know this industrial sector is facing
concerns on different dossiers, in which DG GROW is involved, such
as Real Driving Emissions (RDE), Euro 7 and Euro VII air quality
pollutant emission limits for respectively Light and Heavy Duty
Vehicles, the level of legal uncertainty regarding the
implementation of the General Safety Regulation (GSR) and the
need for an adjustment of the Stage V transitional provisions of the
NRMM. In each of these dossier the European industry is leading at
global level for innovation and investments, and still among the first
employers sector in the EU;
· The “Farm to Fork” (F2F) strategy. We think that this strategy should
recognize - when it comes to the effects on climate, biodiversity or
environment - that there are no sustainable or unsustainable
sectors, but sustainable and unsustainable business practices.
Hence, the strategy should focus on production methods, not on
products/sectors. Likewise, when it comes to healthy eating it
should focus on diets and not on single nutrients/ingredients or
foods: a healthy, balanced diet means eating a wide variety of
foods in the right proportions.
Concerning the format of the meeting we would like to involve a limited
number of stakeholders from our side (two or three persons for each issue
for the sectorial associations or companies). But of course this is only my
proposal.
The idea would be to have an open dialogue to strike together the best
collective balance, taking into account the current situation.
I would propose some tentative dates and time slots to set the meeting,
please let me know if one of this could fit your agenda, otherwise feel free
to propose other options.
- 18 March anytime from 9.00 to 1.00 or 4.30 alle 6.00
- 19 March anytime from 9.00 alle 1.00 or 4.00 alle 6.00
