Dear European Council,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
Is anyone working on a viable alternative to Brexit?
This would involve addressing some of the key issues which many in europe are concerned about + some UK specific issues (e.g. fishing). If the E.U. is to prosper, which I want to see, then external border control, monetary & fiscal policy harmonisation, CAP etc. have to be sorted out so that we do not find parties & movements within member states calling for talks to leave the E.U. I suggest that the eurozone countries need to become a United States of Europe & if other E.U. countries do not want to follow that path they are allowed to become members of a trade association (EFTA?) which can trade on favourable terms with the USE.
In the meantime why does the E.U. not open up a back channel with the U.K. to see if a viable alternative to Brexit can be set out such that at the end of the Brexit negotiation period the peoples of the U.K. can be presented with options, e.g.:
Stay in the E.U. with no changes (no certainty of winning, I suggest)
Stay in the E.U. with agreed changes to key problem areas
Leave to E.U. with either an agreed deal or no deal.

Yours faithfully,
John Hamilton
