Dear Secretary-General of the European Commission,

I kindly request that this letter be forwarded to the appropriate official responsible for reviewing confirmatory applications.

I hereby submit a confirmatory application concerning my request for access to documents titled 'Correspondence and meeting minutes with Ditte Juul Jørgensen'.

Upon reviewing the disclosed documents, I noted that document number 5 did not encompass its attachments. The accompanying letter clarified that these files were withheld due to their "commercially sensitive information", safeguarded by the exceptions delineated in Article 4(2) of the Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001.

The disclosed email within document number 5 enumerates the attachments as four memos, detailed as follows:

1.- A memo presenting perspectives on the current and projected supply of US LNG, the role of FERC in approving new projects, and proposals to enhance the LNG trade between the US and EU.
2.- A memo discussing potential strategies by the EU Energy Platform, its Advisory Group of industry experts, and the Energy Platform Task Force to augment LNG supply to Europe and mitigate price volatility.
3.- A memo examining the potential of EU Biomethane and strategies for rapid realization.
4.- A memo concentrating on the treatment of digestate, a by-product of méthanisation, presently posing significant challenges for increasing biomethane production.

Recognizing the potential need to withhold certain commercially sensitive information, we argue that there exists a paramount public interest that supersedes the aforementioned exceptions:

* The first memo pertains to a predominant concern of European constituents, specifically the environmental ramifications of continued fossil fuel utilization in the EU. Recent Eurobarometer data indicates that a primary demand from European citizens is the expedited adoption of renewable energies.(1) It is imperative for European citizens to discern if the fossil fuel sector is advocating for augmented gas trade with the US in light of the challenges posed by the Ukrainian conflict.
* The second memo further elucidates the aforementioned concerns. Transparency on this memo would grant European citizens clarity regarding any active lobbying efforts by notable European companies to secure alternative fossil fuel sources amid the fuel scarcity ensuing from the Ukrainian conflict.
* The third and fourth memos delve into the prospective uses of biomethane. As outlined in the REPowerEU initiative, there are plans to augment its production in the imminent future.(2) Given this, we contend that the European populace should be apprised of the fossil fuel sector's stance on this resource.

(2) https://energy.ec.europa.eu/topics/renew...

The complete history of my request and all related correspondence can be accessed at the following link: https://www.asktheeu.org/en/request/corr...

I respectfully request a thorough reevaluation concerning the attachments in order to enhance public understanding of pivotal issues integral to the EU’s ongoing commitment to carbon emission reduction and progression towards a sustainable, net-zero future.

Yours sincerely,

Luis Miguel Hurtado Coronado
