Dear Mobility and Transport,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

I am writing to request access to the expression of interest from the 112 selected cities for the EU Cities Mission. I am an advocacy advisor for the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal). We are well-know for our interest in the co-benefits of air quality action and health and part of the mirror group of the Mission Cities in Spain.

We are also guiding a master’s tesis project on this topic and we believe it could support the Cities Mission by examining and making explicit the links among the climate and health agendas. In order to carry out this research, we aim to screen the EOIs for language around the inclusion on health and air quality actions. Therefore, I kindly ask you to provide the documents of the expression of interests of these 112 selected for research reasons.

The aim of the project is to show with a qualitative comparative multiple-case study how air quality measures can be incorporated in the EU Mission and what benefits this would have for the cities and the health of their citizens and climate neutrality goals. The findings will be summarized into a policy brief and provided to the Mission to show with positive examples how to incorporate air quality and health action into the Mission and provide inspiration for the climate city contracts. The analysis will be based on the Air Quality Guidelines released in September 2021 by the World Health Organization and further evolved and complemented with document reviews of the selected cities.

The documents of the cities will only be used for research reasons and handled confidentially. I will adhere to any data protection guidelines required by the mission.

This project could be highly beneficial for the EU Mission on climate-neutral and smart cities, as it uses a supportive/knowledge translational approach and contributes to the Mission model of multisectoral and multilevel action.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions about this project. I would highly appreciate your collaboration and feedback regarding my request.

Yours sincerely,

Alberto Rocamora
