EU policy to non-EU workers. Curtailing bureaucracy and corruption.
Dear European Ombudsman,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
Guideslines for member states policy regarding the issuing of work permits to non-EU citizens. If a non-EU applicant fulfills all criteria for receiving a temporary residence and work permit in a EU member state, what processing time is acceptable for the bureaucracy to issue work and residence permit?
Background: I learned that in one EU country applications are processed in a few moths or even less, in others applicants have to wait up to a year and are even expected to pay bribes (!) in order to speed up the process.
Are there any measures in place for harmonizing the approach
towards non-EU workers, and avoiding corruption by labor office / migrant office employees?
Yours faithfully,
Tobias Weihmann
Dear M Weihmann,
In response to your request of 17 September 2012, please be informed that
the European Ombudsman does not possess the documents, or the kind of
documents, referred to in your e-mail. For this reason, your request
cannot be handled as an application for public access to documents under
Regulation 1049/2001.
I would like to advise you to contact the European Union's central
information service if you wish to pursue your search for the said
documents: [1]http://europa.eu/europedirect/index_en.htm
Kind regards,
Peter Bonnor
Head of Registry
