information on the new 50 Euro note

La solicitud fue exitosa.

Dear European Central Bank,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

Following the recent introduction of the new 50 Euro note, will the old style 50 Euro note go out of circulation, and if so, from what date?

Yours faithfully,

Mr R M Walters

ECB Information, Banco Central Europeo

Dear Mr Walters,

We acknowledge receipt of your email dated 13 April 2017 and would like to
inform you that banknotes of the first series and of the Europa series
circulate in parallel. The first series of euro banknotes will continue to
be issued alongside the Europa series of notes until the remaining stocks
have been used up. They will then be gradually phased out.

The date when the first series of euro banknotes ceases to be legal tender
will be announced well in advance. However, the banknotes of the first
series will always retain their value: they can be exchanged for an
unlimited period of time at the national central banks of the euro area
member states (see also our web page "[1]Europa series of euro
banknotes").

Yours sincerely,

Christine Haas
