Dear Migration and Home Affairs,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

How did DG Home participate in the Negotiation of the Global Compact for Migration conceived under the auspices of United Nations? Did it help the EEAS and the EU Delegation to the UN in the negotiation process? Is there a document that set out the position to be defended?

Yours faithfully,

Ainhoa.

Dear Ms Gonzalez,

Thank you for your request. As there is no document outlining how DG HOME
has been involved in the negotiations of the Global Compact for Migration,
we would like to provide you with the following information.

DG HOME followed closely the process of the negotiations of the Global
Compact for Migration, which took place in New York. Together with other
Commission services and the European External Action Service, DG HOME
provided support to the EU Delegation to the United Nations in New York at
each stage of the negotiation process. Moreover, DG HOME was actively
engaged in the discussions with the Member States in Brussels, in
particular in the framework of the joint meetings of the Council’s
High-Level Working Group on Asylum and Migration and the United Nations
Working Party.

There is no document outlining the position which needed to be defended by
DG HOME. DG HOME’s aim in the negotiations was to ensure that the
negotiated text is in line with the EU acquis and policies on migration.

Best regards,
