Dear JJ Evans,

With regards to your access to documents request below, ECDC was
established in 2005,  so I regret to inform you that ECDC  has no official
document dated before 1983.

The European Surveillance System (TESSy) collects country-reported data on
HIV diagnoses which are attributed to reception of a transfusion of blood
or blood products.  The UK did not report any cases in 1983 or earlier
which were due to this transmission route.

UK is self-sufficient in supply of blood and blood components and it was
also self-sufficient before 1983. Hence, it is unlikely that blood and
blood components have been issued to the UK. The term blood products, that
is described in the letter,  is sometimes used for plasma derived
medicinal products (albumin. Immunoglobulins and coagulation factors) that
have been involved in viral transmissions and could have been issued to
the UK.

I suggest that you contact EMA, European medicines agency, or the European
commission that may have this kind of data.

Kind Regards

Mimmi Delsing
