1. CONTEXT
In  the  context  of  SOLON  "Knowledge  Management"  project,  the  AJ  ("Aperçus  de
jurisprudence") documents produced on a regular basis have to be split in 'extraits' – extracts also
called fragments- so that :
  Each extract can be associated to one or several 'thèmes juridiques' (TJ)
  Each extract can be retrieved individually in a TJ based search.
This document :
-  Describes  what  the  split  can  be  in  term  of  resulting  documents  in  HAN  (Hermes  –  ARES  –
Nomcom). For this purpose, it studies two possible alternatives.
-  Gives  some  guidelines  on  how  the  split  can  be  carried  out.  At  this  point,  only  manual
processing is dealt with.
This document follows the document "SOLON  KM 1  - THEMES  - Use Case Specification". It
gives a more precise picture on use case "Utilisation des documents et TJ pour la génération des
Aperçus  de  JurisPrudence  (AJ)  et  leur  restitution  personnalisée  dans  une  recherche"  and  more
specifically on the issue of adapting the current AJ production process so that it fits the business
needs laid out in the Use Case document.

4. CONCLUSION
The alternative #1 offers a finer control over the richness of information dedicated to each extrait
because  the  full  range  of  meta-data  of  an  ARES  document  could  be  used.  For  instance,  it  is
possible  to  keep  a  full  title  for  each  extrait  and  also  to  fine-grain  the  linking  of  each  extrait
document by filing it in 'case file'.
The alternative #2 offers a simpler model and  therefore a simpler production process whether it
is  done  manually  or  automated.  Moreover,  it  avoids  multiplication  of  ARES  reference  for
document  whose  size  can  be  a  few  line  of  text.  As  for  us  of  attchments  vs.  documents,  it  fits
better into the e-Domec guidelines.
After experimentation of both alternatives on the Test environment, the alternative #2 has
been selected for roll-out in production.
