Meeting with VDMA - TTIP - 22.01.2015

VDMA:

 and

COMM: I. Garcia Bercero,

 (DG Trade),
,

 and
 (DG ENTR)

•  VDMA stated that they continue working on providing more common positions
across the Atlantic, on the top of the ones provided by the printing industry,
ORGALIME/NEMA, SPI/Euromap and CECE/CEMA/AEM.
•  Upon Commission request they highlighted their main interests in the NRTL
revision:

ILAC/IAF accreditation recognition by OSHA and ensuing recognition of
certificates.

Enhancing the use of IEC/ISO standards.

Use of a common safety marking.
•  VDMA requested clarification on the recently published Commission paper on
engineering: In particular regarding the absence of specific language on
accreditation, the particular approach to mechanical safety and in general about how
the discussions with the US would progress.
•  The issue of the use of ISO 12100 was raised. VDMA would see a great
improvement if this standard was taken up by the US.
•  VDMA reiterated their request of 100% tariff elimination at entry into force.
•  Regarding RoO, they claimed that CETA is not the right example for TTIP and that
under every heading there should always be a possibility to use an alternative rule.
•  Simplifying visa procedures for workers is also a demand of VDMA (Comm noted
that this is out of the scope of TTIP)
