Dear Commissioner Hogan,
Invitation to deliver opening or closing plenary keynote speech, morning 19 or afternoon 20 October, at the
European Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy, EFIB 2016, in Glasgow, Scotland
We write in our capacities as chair of EuropaBio’s Industrial Biotechnology Council and Secretary General to
invite you to join us as keynote opening or closing plenary speaker at EFIB 2016.
As an enabler of the broader circular bioeconomy, industrial biotech provides technology, developed in the EU,
to help make agriculture and forestry more sustainable and competitive. Each year, EFIB brings together an
international audience of around 700 thought leaders and decision makers to discuss what measures are
needed to enable primary producers to play a leading role in the transition towards a renewable carbon
economy. Part of this process requires engaging in a more holistic and nuanced discussion about land use and
the opportunities and chal enges facing the farming and forestry sectors in providing food, feed, fibre, fuel and
materials for a growing population with limited resources.
Our delegates would greatly value your perspective on these issues and on the support and measures needed
to enable primary producers to fulfill their potential in the transition towards a renewable, resource efficient
Our opening and closing plenaries will feature groundbreaking new joint ventures, CEOs and thought leaders
from civil society sectors and will seek to provide insights on the action needed to create new and innovative
bio-based markets in Europe.
We very much hope that you will be able to join us and we thank you in advance for your kind consideration of
