Meeting COPA COGECA - report
On 22 June 2016 a meeting was organised between COPA-COGECA and
COPA-COGECA expressed concerns about the current crisis of the
agricultural sector and noted that more export is needed in order to support
the EU farmers.
COPA-COGECA noted that the access to foreign markets by EU
agriculture products shall be further promoted and welcomed the efforts by
the Commissioners for Trade and Agriculture in this respect.
In the framework of TTIP, COPA-COGECA noted that we should keep
reassuring the farmers on the most sensitive products. COPA-COGECA
maintains its position on non – tariff barriers and will circulate an updated
list of non-tariff priorities to the relevant services of the Commission.
COPA-COGECA noted the importance of improving market access in the
Japanese market and explained the sensitivity of the beef sector vis-à-vis
Mercosur, suggesting that the conditions of the concessions, the
specifications of the quotas, will be of utmost importance.
COPA-COGECA also made reference to the Russian market and finally to
WTO negotiations. As closing remark COPA COGECA insisted on the
importance of exports promotion for the EU farming community.
TRADE CAB took note of the stakeholder's position and offered a short
overview of the current state of play of the trade negotiations with the
United States, Japan and Mercosur.
