¾ Mr. Chase underlined Dow's continued support for the EU's trade policy agenda, including with
regard to the ongoing bilateral FTA negotiations with Japan, countries in South East Asia, GCC as well
as Mercosur. He stressed that the close EU-US relationship will remain crucially important for the
company, notwithstanding the fate of the TTIP negotiations; Mr. Chase also referred to the recent
appointment of Dow Chairman and Chief Executive Andrew Liveris as Head of the Manufacturing
Council
, a private sector group that advises the U.S. Secretary of Commerce. See
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-liveris-idUSKBN13Z01U as well as the enclosed FT
article.
¾ Mr. Chase outlined some key aspects of the ongoing Dow/Du Pont merger proceedings where the
Commission decision on the approval of the planned merger is now expected for early April (see the
enclosed Financial Times article of 5 February 2017).
Out of the scope of the request
Dow also handed over the enclosed Bruegel Policy Contribution titled "The European
Union's growing innovation divide".
