Visit of United States Chamber of Commerce Delegation
Meeting date and place
Meeting held on 28/11/2018 10:00 in Charlemagne
Participating organisation(s) & representative(s)
- - Chamber of Commerce of the United States of America (TRN: 444722016787-61)  ,
Main issues discussed
The US Chamber delegation indicated the prime purpose of their visit to Brussels was to discuss Brexit, but they were also interested to
have the Commission's perspectives on ongoing EU-US work in the framework of the Executive Working Group (EWG).
The Commission explained that the main focus of the EWG was presently on regulatory cooperation aspects, where the EU and US were
discussing a potential mix of short- and medium-term outcomes.  WTO reform issues and China were also important cooperation tracks.
The Commission noted its openness to stakeholder inputs on appropriate priorities for regulatory cooperation.  The Commission also set
out its approach on potential trade negotiations, recalling that Presidents Juncker and Trump had agreed in July to exclude agriculture and
procurement and focus potential negotiations on tariffs for industrial products.
Chamber representatives raised a number of questions, including on agriculture, the auto sector, China, data protection/privacy,
e-commerce, medical devices, services and trade facilitation.
The Chamber drew attention to a website (thewrongapproach.com) it had set up, which was critical of the present US  Administration's
imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminium and on imports from China.
