Dear Mr. Strotmann,
I write to you on behalf of the vacation rental marketplace HomeAway, which is the world's
leading online marketplace for the vacation rental industry with over one million live listings in
190 countries. It was recently acquired by Expedia, the leading global travel brand.
Supportive regulatory frameworks are critical to HomeAway and the company is actively
contributing to the various strands of EU activity that relate to online platforms, vacation rentals
and the collaborative economy.
With this in mind,

HomeAway and
, HomeAway’s
, would like to seek a meeting
with you on Tuesday 6 December.
Specifically HomeAway would like to discuss the Commission’s collaborative economy guidelines
and to give their perspective around issues that were raised in this document, such as market
access requirements, appropriate distinctions between professional and non-professional
provision of services, and consumer protection which were all explored in the communication. I
attach HomeAway’s submission to the online platforms consultation for your information. Given
your responsibility for collaborative economy matters within the Cabinet of Commission Vice-
President Ansip, we thought you would be interested in a short discussion on these topics.
I look forward to hearing from you and very much hope that you have availability on Tuesday 6
December.
Kind regards,
