Report  - meeting with Amazon on trade policy and data flows  - 4/7/18
Meeting with Amazon Web Services – 4 July 2018
Participants: Amazon Web Services:
(
),
DG Trade: DG Jean-Luc Demarty,
The meeting was organised at the request of Amazon to discuss trade policy and in particular, the
transatlantic data flows.
The discussion touched upon the transatlantic trade relations. Among the specific issues, the following
were mentioned:
•  Amazon explained that the free flow of cross-border data is of key interest for Amazon and its
customers therefore they support the inclusion of such rules in trade agreements.
•  They are very active in preventing counterfeiting on their platform: Amazon signed the MoU on
counterfeit and participated in the Commission public consultation to establish the first world-wide
"Counterfeit and Piracy Watch-List”.
•  Amazon also raised concerns with the “Goods package” adopted by the Commission in December.
