Eurometaux presented their view on the Chemical Strategy on Sustainability which is currently in
development and expected to be adopted in September 2020. They outlined the importance of
metals to achieve the objectives of the Green Deal and the digital transformation. They stressed the
need to identify key circular value chains, which hazardous substances are used, where exposure
happens and how to prevent it. They had already reached out to DG ENV and GROW who are the
lead DGs for the strategy. They announced their intention to conduct further reflection during the
summer leading to proposals for actions in the autumn.
SANTE recalled the time schedule for the adoption of the strategy (September 2020) and noted that
Eurometaux clarified that their reflections rather targeted implementation actions of what will be
announced in the strategy. They informed that they had seen an early draft of the strategy and on
the issues addressed therein, they would not support a standard and systematic mixture assessment
factor (MAF) nor inclusion of a new hazard class for endocrine disruptors in the CLP Regulation
(preferring instead to first do this in the context of the UN GHS at global level).
