Brussels, 5 November 2020
Dear Social Partners,
Together with Vice-President Margaritis Schinas, I would like to invite you to a virtual
meeting to discuss two flagship initiatives, which will be adopted by the Commission in
the weeks to come: the Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe and Europe’s Beating Cancer
Plan.
As Europe and the world are going through the most serious health crisis in recent
history, long-standing challenges, such as shortages, access and affordability of
medicines, and strengthening health systems to deliver the highest quality care to all,
remain key priorities of this Commission.
It is only by working together that we will be able to deliver a future-proof
pharmaceutical environment, where patients have access to affordable medicines, and
where EU industry can flourish and lead as a world innovator.
It is also by joining forces that we can strive for more and deliver better care for cancer
patients, reduce inequalities and make access to prevention, diagnosis and treatments a
reality across the EU.
The relevance of these two initiatives today is even more acute, as we seek not only to
repair and recover the EU’s economy from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, but also
to shape a better way of living for the world of tomorrow.
With this is mind, we would like to invite BUSINESSEUROPE, CEEP, SMEunited and
ETUC to hear your views on the upcoming Pharmaceutical Strategy and Europe’s
Beating Cancer Plan at an online meeting on:
Thursday 12 November 2020, 12h00- 13h30 (3+4 observers format). Log-in details will
