On behalf of the Executive Council of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union
(AmCham EU), I would like to sincerely thank you for e-meeting with us on Tuesday, 28 April 2020. Our
members found the discussion extremely interesting and we hope that you benefited from the encounter as
well.
The Executive Council members greatly valued your insights on the past, current and future challenges of the
pandemic and the role of business in the economic recovery process. Your presentation of the next steps for
tax policy was very clear and appreciated by all of our members. Your overview gave us a comprehensive view
on the issues at stake for the EU and the world and the COVID-19’s impact on business. We hope the concrete
examples our members provided during the meeting, including the effects of the pandemic on our businesses,
will help you in your work. As senior business leaders, we would be delighted to continue this conversation
virtually and in-person.
We would like to share with you AmCham EU’s position paper
‘An industrial vision for the EU’. In this paper
AmCham EU highlights four key priorities for the future industrial strategy of the EU including
Digitising
European industry:
Fostering investment and innovation in people, technologies and processes;
Accelerating
the EU circular economy and
Creating the right environment for a clean future. These four priority areas are
even more crucial now than ever before to achieve a full economic recovery of the EU.
AmCham EU’s Customs and Trade Facilitation committee would also like to thank you and your team for your
reply to their letter on customs border management and flow of commercial goods. They look forward to
continuing working with you and your DG on this topic in the coming months.
Our members hope to continue this open and direct dialogue with you and your team on the future of the
European Union and transatlantic partnership in the face of this crisis. The Executive Council members and
