Key messages
BMW Group
- The CO2 standards target can be increased to 50%, but it might not be reached if charging
infrastructure is not following. Need to link the CO2 standards with the targets for alternative
fuels infrastructure.
- There should not be rules to extinguish the combustion engine. We can be carbon neutral in
2050. We will improve all things, but we should not ban / exclude technologies.
CAV - Policy risk deteriorating the European car industry, some aspects is due to the car industry itself
(diesel scandal)
- The Commission should be technology neutral, which is no longer always the case. The
Commission should not be in the business of banning technologies.
- With the European Green Deal everyone is eyeing transport. By targeting the emissions of the
road sector with 6 different regulations, we however risk multiplying carbon prices
- Recognize that linking CO2 standards with recharging infrastructure is smart, but politically
difficult. Roll-out of infrastructure wil depend on willingness from MS eventually
BMW Group
- Technology neutrality is very important, as it translates into openness to customers and their
different needs. Ending the combustion engine is part of a system between industry and the
citizens. We also need to be aware of the ICE second hand market.
- Need to adapt to the different geographic realities across the EU, example of possibilities
between Naples and Stockholm, where Naples will have difficulties to be suitable for recharging
stations
- We need to keep all six fuels alive, innovate for all of them, including the internal combustion
engine
- In 30 years in this industry, has never seen such as R&D push to innovate
- Important to remember that European manufacturers is an export industry, that we need to
support, as an industry recognized for its quality. EU citizens are depending on it.
