Dear M. Pye,
In answer to your request under the reference number GestDem 2015/2986
copied below, I inform you that there has not been an audit or
investigation conducted by the European Union on the Odder Meanchey sugar
concessions.
The Government of Cambodia has agreed to conduct an assessment on land
disputes in the sugar sector leading to a process of eventual redress. The
European Union currently provides technical expertise to assist the
development of a methodology for this assessment. This methodology is yet
to be finalised. The assessment will follow. In this context, consultants
have made visits and organised consultations in all sites, including those
in reference, in order to conduct a very preliminary estimation of claims
that would be the object of this assessment. These visits were done with
the sole objective of further defining the methodology and to identify the
expertise and resources that would be required.
Best regards
