Decarbonisation, state aid & industrial strategy meetings' contents
Dear Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs,
I am writing to submit a request under the European Union's Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding public access to European Parliament, Council, and Commission documents. Specifically, I request access to records and information related to a series of meetings between ArcelorMittal (AM) representatives and Thierry Breton, Internal Market Commissioner, and/or Joan Canton, a cabinet member of Commissioner Breton. The relevant meetings took place on the following dates:
- 02/02/2022 meeting between Thierry Breton, Commissioner, Joan Canton, Cabinet Member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “Exchange on energy price surges, investment needs and support to decarbonisation objectives”.
- 20/10/2021 meeting between Joan Canton, Cabinet member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “Green transition: fit for 55, state aid.”
- 31/05/2021 meeting between Joan Canton, Cabinet member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “Fit for 55 package.”
- 18/05/2021 meeting between Joan Canton, Cabinet member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “Clean Hydrogen alliance; fit for 55 package.”
19/04/2021 meeting between Joan Canton, Cabinet member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “Fit for 55 package, industrial strategy.”
- 10/09/2020 meeting between Thierry Breton, Commissioner, Gaelle Garnier, Cabinet member of Thierry Breton and AM representatives on “EU industrial strategy.”
I am seeking the following documents and information related to these meetings:
- All preparatory documents, including but not limited to memos, emails, briefing notes, or reports, exchanged between representatives of ArcelorMittal and any officials or employees of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, in anticipation of the aforementioned meetings.
- Copies of the agendas and any related materials distributed during each of the specified meetings.
- Meeting minutes or notes taken during the meetings that occurred on 02/02/2022, 20/10/2021, 31/05/2021, 18/05/2021, 19/04/2021, and 10/09/2020 between ArcelorMittal representatives and Thierry Breton and/or Joan Canton.
- Any presentation documents, slides, charts, or graphics used during these meetings.
- Any records related to decisions, commitments, or agreements made during or as a result of these meetings.
- Any records of follow-up actions or communications subsequent to these meetings.
Please provide the requested documents within the timeframe specified by Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001. If any of the requested documents are subject to exceptions or restrictions under this regulation, please clearly indicate the reasons for the refusal and specify the legal basis for such refusal. I accept receiving partially disclosed documents.

under the above mentioned reference number.

position to complete the handling of your application within the time
