Documentation of meetings between European Commission and plastics/petrochemical companies related to global agreement on plastic pollution
Dear Environment,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting the following information:
I am seeking all documentation, including correspondence, logs of meetings, minutes and summaries, from 1 January 2021 onward between the European Commission and plastic producers and petrochemical companies and industry associations representing them, related to the development of a new global agreement on plastic pollution and the United Nations Environment Assembly’s consideration thereof. This includes, but is not limited to, correspondence with associations like PlasticsEurope, European Chemistry Industry Council (CEFIC) and the World Plastics Council as well as companies like BASF, Dow Europe, ExxonMobil Chemical and Ineos.
In the event this application relates to a very long document or to a very large number of documents, I am open to conferring informally pursuant to Article 6(3) of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 with a view toward finding a fair solution. I request that, for any documents withheld or redacted, a list be provided with the claims to justify their withholding and redaction.
Yours faithfully,
John Chalmers,
Bureau Chief, Brussels
