Dear Mr Mechels,

We refer to your request for access to documents registered on 07/10/2024 under reference n° ICD-AD-08/2024.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) identified the following attached documents that correspond to the description given in your application and can confirm the following, in reverse chronological order:

The note informing of the closure of the EESC's Mastodon account was presented at the Communication commission (COCOM) meeting of 4 June 2024
The attached zip file (COCOM 20240604.zip) contains the agenda of the meeting, the note on the closure of the Mastodon account, and the minutes of the meeting.

The proposal to launch a Mastodon account was approved at the Communication commission (COCOM) meeting of 29 June 2023
The attached zip file (COCOM 20230629.zip) contains the agenda of the meeting, the proposal to set up a Mastodon account, and the minutes of the meeting.

The EU Voice and EU Video projects, as well as other open-source social media platforms, were regularly discussed at the meetings of the Inter-Institutional Online Communication Commission (IOCC) and of its Social Media Working Group (SMWG) during the period covered by this access to documents request. The Secretariat of the IOCC is best placed to provide the requester with the documents pertaining to these discussions that he requests. The Secretariat can be contacted through the following email address: [email address].

With the exception of the IOCC and SMWG meetings referred to above, the EESC did not meet with the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), nor with any other EU institution, regarding EU Voice, EU Video, or other open-source social media platforms.

Whereas the EESC participated in the EU Voice project, as indicated in the COCOM notes referred to above, it did not participate in the EU Video project.

The COCOM meetings referred to above are the only internal meetings that we have been able to identify in which EU Voice, EU Video, or other open-source social media platforms were discussed.

The EESC did not have a social media strategy document during the period covered by this access to documents request. The EESC did not allocate any budget to the EU Voice project, nor to any other open-source social media platform. No complaints were received by the EESC regarding the EU Voice project.

With regard to data protection, personal names have been omitted in the attached documents.

With this reply, the EESC considers your application as handled and the file closed.

If you have any new requests for specific documents, please do not hesitate to get back to us.

Yours sincerely,

Information Centre and Document Management Sector (EESC)
