EU funding research in the UK
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a journalist conducting a study on British scientific research programmes funded by the European Union.
“Scientific research” is to be intended in a broader sense, thus including researches conducted for example by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC), Medical Research Council (MRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
I am writing to request information under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001.
I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
1) How much money the UK government has sent annually to the European Union to fund research. I would like a breakdown of the data for the last 10 years.
2) The amount of money the UK government has been providing to the European Union for “Horizon 2020”, “Cosme”, the Consumer Programme, the “3rd Health Programme”, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, the Justice programme and the Promotion of agricultural products since those programme begun.
3) The amount of money the UK institutions has been receiving from the European Union through “Horizon 2020”, “Cosme”, the Consumer Programme, the “3rd Health Programme”, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel, the Justice programme and the Promotion of agricultural products; since those programmes’ beginning.
I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request. I’d like to receive the information in excel format. Your earliest reply to this matter, would be appreciated. If this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me so I can refine it. If the information is already available online, I would appreciate if you could point me out to it.
Yours faithfully,
Emanuela Barbiroglio

Dear Ms Barbiroglio,
I am writing to you concerning your request for information concerning EU
funding for research in the United Kingdom of 31 March. In that request
you express an interest in receiving data concerning the Promotion of
agricultural products.
Given the fact that the policy for the promotion of agricultural products
is not research related (nevertheless a call for proposals is published on
the H2020 participant portal because the IT application allows for
submitting applications electronically) I wonder if the information
concerning the promotion of agricultural products will indeed be of use
and needed for your study on British scientific research programmes funded
by the European Union?
For more information on the policy for the promotion of agricultural
products, please find below a link to the relevant website:

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Ms Barbiroglio,
Please find here under the reply to the question (in particular point 3)
REPLY:
Since from the question it is not clear the timespan (a decade or only the 3rd Health Programme?) our reply is based on the 2nd Health Programme 2008-2013 available data, and the first two years of the 3rd Health Programme in order to be as comprehensive and transparent as possible.
UK is among the first two Member States receiving the highest part of funding from the 2nd Health Programme.
The amount of money the UK's beneficiaries received from the European Union through the “2nd Health Programme 2008-2013“ is about 28.7 Mio/EUR out of 293.9 Mio/EUR, representing 9.7% of the available Health Programme budget spent on different Health Actions.
The amount of money received so far for the "3rd Health Programme 2014-2020" for years 2014 and 2015 corresponds to 3.0 Mio/EUR and 4.0 Mio/EUR respectively, corresponding to 6.07% of the 115.3 Mio/EUR which is the cumulative available Health Programme budget in the first two years of the 3rd Health Programme implementation.
With kind regards,
