False positives in EURODAC software

Migration et affaires intérieures n'avait pas les informations demandées.

Nicolas Kayser-Bril

Dear Migration and Home Affairs,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting all documents which contain the rate of false positive and rate of false negatives in EURODAC searches.

All matching systems produce false positives, when a match is said by the system to be true when it's not, and false negatives, when a match is said to be false when it's actually true. UNHCR recommended in November 2012 that Eurodac eliminates the risk of error of matching between latent fingerprints and fingerprints stored in ‘Eurodac’, which presupposes that the European Commission measures the said risk.

I am therefore requesting all documents pertaining to the assessment of the rate of false positives and rate of false negatives in EURODAC searches held by the European Commission.

Yours faithfully,

Nicolas Kayser-Bril
