Dear European Economic and Social Committee,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

The names of EESC members that reside and/or work in Brussels and also receive a per diem allowance from the EESC.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Nielsen,

Thank you for your request for access to documents of the EESC.

Your query for documents containing names of EESC members that reside
and/or work in Brussels and also receive a per diem allowance from the
EESC does not enable us to identify concrete documents which would
correspond to it.

The payment of a daily allowance to EESC members is not linked to place of
residence. According to the [1]Council Decision 2013/470 of 23 September
2013 on the granting of daily allowances to and the reimbursement of
travelling expenses of members of the European Economic and Social
Committee and their alternates (recital 4), all members of the Committee
are entitled to allowances compensating for the time spent by those
members and their alternates in performance of their duties and for
related administrative costs. Under Article 2 of the Council Decision "1.
The daily allowance for beneficiaries attending meetings shall be set at
EUR 290".

Similarly, under the decision of the Bureau of the EESC of 26 April 2016
(attached) on the reimbursement of expenses incurred and the allowances
received by Committee members, delegates of the Committee's consultative
commissions, their respective alternates and the Committee's experts
(art.11) ; "A subsistence allowance shall be granted for each day's
participation in the work of the Committee and its constituent bodies or
of official representation of the EESC. The subsistence allowance shall be
set at EUR 290".

If your request is not covered with the above information, we invite you,
pursuant to Article 6(3) of the EESC Decision 2003/603 on public access to
documents, to provide us with more detailed information on the documents
which you seek to obtain, such as references, dates or periods during
which the documents would have been produced, and what do you mean with
the terms 'residing and/or working in Brussels' in connection with the
payment of daily allowances, given that the two issues are not linked. The
15 working days' time limit for handling your application would start
running when we receive the requested clarifications.

Thanking you in advance for your understanding,

Yours sincerely,
