MEP and Commissioner Holidays

La demande est réussie.

Dear European Parliament,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as
developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

I would like to know the following information, since the start of the current Parliament:

(a) The amount of days taken as 'holiday' for each commissioner and MEP, including any reason given for these holidays.
(b) A monthly breakdown of meetings between Commissioners and Lobbyists - including name of Commissioner.

If you need further clarification, please contact me by email. My
preferred format to receive the information is electronically, but
I can accept hard copies.

Some parts of this request may be easier to answer than others, and
in such case I would ask that you release available data as soon as
possible rather than delay the entire request.

If FOI requests of a similar nature have been asked already, please
include your responses to those requests. If the costs of
processing this request exceed the limit in the Act, please advise
what information you are able to supply within the cost limit.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have
received this request. I look forward to your response within 20
working days, as outlined by the statute.

Yours faithfully,

Rob Comley

Dear Mr Comley,

The Citizens’ Enquiries Unit of the European Parliament has been asked to
reply to your request for information concerning holidays for Members of
the European Parliament and the European Commissioners, as well as
meetings between Commissioners and lobbyists.

Firstly, we would inform you that information about EU Commissioners
should be requested directly from the [1]European Commission's services.

With regard to Members of the European Parliament, we would inform you
that neither the Statute for Members nor the Rules of Procedure contain
rules on leave entitlements. However, the parliamentary calendar stating
all plenary sessions, meetings of the political groups as well as the
committees and the green weeks for external parliamentary activities (work
in the constituency) roughly defines the working schedule of the MEPs.

Parliament decides its annual calendar of work on the basis of a proposal
by the Conference of Presidents. The calendar is divided into plenary
sittings (part-sessions) and meetings.
It comprises:

• 12 four-day part-sessions in Strasbourg and six additional two-day
part-sessions in Brussels,
• two weeks a month for meetings of parliamentary committees and
interparliamentary delegations,
• one week a month for political group meetings,
• and four weeks a year where MEPs concentrate exclusively on
constituency work.

According to the parliamentary calendar there are four weeks foreseen in
July and August where no parliamentary activities take place.

We thank you contacting the European Parliament.

Yours sincerely,

Citizens' Enquiries Unit
