Dear European Asylum Support Office,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

1. The number of people seeking asylum because of political persecution in their home countries;
2. How many of them actually became the EU citizen each year;
3. What is the average time for them to stay in the EU territory?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mrs Hanzang Xu,

Reference is made to your e-mail dated 29 September 2019, with request for
access to the documents which contain the following information:
1. The number of people seeking asylum because of political persecution in
their home countries,
2. How many of them actually became the EU citizen each year,
3. What is the average time for them to stay in the EU territory?

Your inquiry was assessed as a request for information for the following
reasons:

EASO does not possess any document or/and information on the number of
people seeking asylum because of political persecution. You might be
however interested to consult the [1]Annual Report on the Situation of
Asylum in the EU 2018, which provides a comprehensive overview of
asylum-related developments in the areas of legislation, policy and
practice both at an EU level and at the level of national asylum systems.
In addition to this resource, you may also find of relevance of your
interest the [2]EASO Country of Origin Information (COI) Portal, where you
will be able to find comprehensive information on the situation in
countries from which asylum seekers originate.

As regards to your second question; positive decisions are supposed to be
followed by the issuance of a residence permit. Positive decisions can be
seen in the [3]Latest Asylum Trends, however not the reasons for the
positive decisions (such as political persecution), or whether or when the
applicants were provided with a residence permit, or granted a
citizenship. The latter is not as such related to the asylum process and
EASO does not collect information in this regard.

Concerning your third question, an Entry Exit System (EES) to measure the
length of stay of non-EU nationals, was not yet established.
In case of your further interest in the Migration related data and trends
measurement across Europe, you might wish to consult [4]Clandestino
Project. Public data on migration and population statistics are also
available at [5]Eurostat.

We believe that access to and consultation of the above-mentioned links
will provide you with sufficient information of relevance to your
interest. In the meantime, I remain at your disposal in case of any
further clarification is required.

Yours sincerely
