Policy on the situation of Iranian refugees who have changed religion

La demande est réussie.

Dear European Council,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
The current policy concerning Iranian refugees who have changed religion and are currently in UNHCR camps on the borders of Europe. Article 18 of the U.N. declaration of human rights allows people to change their religion, how does the EU prioritize the asylum claims for these people?

Yours faithfully,
Tony Gray

Dear Mr Gray,

Thank you for your message to the general Secretariat of the Council of the EU.

The main principles on the EU policy on asylum is defined in the Lisbon Treaty (articles 77-80) - in particular the reference to the Geneva Convention of 1951 and its Protocol of 1967 and in the EU acquis on the matter (the so-called 'Common European Asylum System : the Dublin Regulation, the Eurodac Regulation, and the three Directives on Reception Conditions, on Qualification and on the Procedures).

All these texts are currently being revised following the presentation of several Commission proposals presented in May and July last year. All these documents are - of course - public and they apply to anyone who needs international protection in particular if a person is being pursued for religious believes.

We send you for information the Lisbon Treaty and the " Common European Asylum system":
