Projects funded under the FP7 programme
Dear Research and Innovation,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
1. The number of projects funded by the European Union under the FP7 programme.
According to the figures I have downloaded from the CORDIS site, 25607 projects received funding. Is that figure correct? If not so, how many projects were funded and where could I find their names and details?
2. The number of projects funded by the EU under the FP7 programme still ongoing, which have been funded again by the Horizon 2020 programme.
Yours faithfully,
Xavier Martínez-Galiana

Dear Mr Galiana,
Please find below our reply to your questions:
1. The number of projects funded by the European Union under the FP7
programme
According to the figures I have downloaded from the CORDIS site, 25607
projects received funding. Is that figure correct? If not so, how many
projects were funded and where could I find their names and details?
According to our internal database the number of projects funded by the EU
under the FP7 programme is 25.783 (data extracted on 22/05/2017).
The figure you have provided seems to have been retrieved from the [6]EU
Open Data Portal and those data where updated last time on 16/11/2015 that
explains the difference.
The primary information source for the EU-funded RTD projects is
[7]CORDIS, the Community Research & Development Information Service, while
the EU Open Data Portal provides a metadata catalogue giving free access
to data from the institutions and other bodies of the EU for you to use.
2. The number of projects funded by the EU under the FP7 programme still
ongoing, which have been funded again by the Horizon 2020 programme.
Out of the 25.783 grant agreements signed under FP7 programme, 18.974 are
already closed and 6.809 grant agreements are still ongoing (data
extracted on 22/05/2017 from our internal database).
According to the principle of non-cumulative award set out in article 129
of the [8]Financial regulations applicable to the general budget of the
Union, a project cannot be funded twice from EU budget, so in principle
there are no FP7 funded projects that are being funded again by Horizon
2020.
Please also note that each RTD framework programme runs independently and
may coincide in time when the projects funded by one programme are still
ongoing and the next framework programme starts being implemented. The FP7
Programme, was adopted for the period from 1 January 2007 to 31 December
2013 but there is a number of projects (6.809) still being implemented and
funded under FP7.
We hope you find the above information helpful.
Best regards,
