Report on spanish Ebola case and Carlos III hospital infrastructure

La réponse à cette demande est très en retard Centre européen pour la prévention et le contrôle des maladies aurait déjà dû répondre à la demande (détails). Vous pouvez vous plaindre en Solliciter une révision interne .

Dear European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

According to Spanish media [1], experts from the ECDC visited the Carlos III hospital in Madrid on October 8th-10th in order to evaluate the handling of the first Spanish Ebola case, as well as the hospital infrastructure. I would like to receive a copy of the experts report.

Yours faithfully,

David Cabo

Dear Mr Cabo,

Many thanks for your query.

As you know, ECDC sent two of its experts to Spain to work with the authorities there in the investigation of how this infection happened. They were there between 8 and 11 October. Their role was to provide their expertise to the Spanish authorities in their investigations.

The statement appeared in the press was not an ECDC report, but a preliminary comment made at the end of one of the meetings in hospital Carlos III and was not taken from an official report. ECDC has not issued any report based on its mission to Madrid.

The final conclusions of the investigation will be made by the Spanish authorities. For any interim conclusions from the investigations, questions should be directed to the authorities there.

ECDC’s role lies in risk assessment and providing support to the European Commission and the EU Member States. In this regard, ECDC is monitoring the event very closely and is reviewing its Risk Assessment as the outbreak evolves.

With best regards,

Giovanni Mancarella

Dear ECDC,

Thanks very much for the prompt response. Do you have a transcript of those preliminary comments?

Yours sincerely,

David Cabo

Dear Mr. Cabo,

As my colleague was mentioning below, the statement that appeared in the
media was from the hospital Carlos III and not an ECDC report. As such it
does not constitute an ECDC view. ECDC’s role was only to support the
investigation and any final report that will be issued, will be reviewed
and then published by the Spanish authorities. In light of this, the
Spanish authorities would be the best placed to respond to your questions.

Best regards,

Andra.

Estimada Susana,

David Cabo
