Dear European Union Agency for Asylum,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

1) Number of asylum requests made, accepted and refused by Syrians from 2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country.
2) Number of asylum requests made, accepted and refused by Ukrainians from 2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country.
3) Number of all asylum requests made, accepted and refused from 2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country. If the information could be organized by asylum seekers nationality (for instance, giving specific data/numbers on the top 10 nationalities), it would be great, but if it requires too much effort, the "number of all asylum requests made, accepted and refused from 2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country" would be enough for now.
4) How is the asylum procedure of each EU country in term of how long you can stay in the country before needing to renew your request or to have it reassessed.

Yours faithfully,
PPDBA

2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country.

3) Number of all asylum requests made, accepted and refused from 2011 to

organized by asylum seekers nationality (for instance, giving specific
data/numbers on the top 10 nationalities), it would be great, but if it
requires too much effort, the "number of all asylum requests made,
accepted and refused from 2011 to 2024, per year and for each EU country"
would be enough for now.

4) How is the asylum procedure of each EU country in term of how long you
can stay in the country before needing to renew your request or to have it
reassessed.

We hereby acknowledge the receipt of your application for access to
documents under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, which was registered under

on 27th June 2024.

falling thereunder.

In addition, although these are not EUAA documents and do not therefore

the context of your request you may consider consulting the following
publically available databases, which contain the official statistics
submitted by each Member State to Eurostat under Regulation (EU) 2020/851
amending Regulation (EC) 862/2007, which are disseminated publicly on the
Eurostat website:
[2]https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/migrat...).

More specifically, you may want to refer to the following datasets:

•

Dear Public Access To Documents Mailbox,

Thank you for your answer.

Upon rechecking the reports, I unfortunately found that the information I need is not available in them. For instance, until 2015, the reports provide information about the number of asylum applicants per country, but all subsequent information refers to the total numbers of applications in the EU+ as a whole. I need the data broken down by country, not aggregated.

Similarly, in 2016, when the report discusses decisions by country, it presents the data as percentages shown in bar graphs, which only indicate ranges (e.g., 0-25%, 25-50%, 50-75%, 75-100%). These percentages are not precise enough for my needs. Although the graphics and quadrant data are important, they do not help me find the specific information I am looking for.

Additionally, also in 2016, when the report shows data on asylum applicants in the EU+ by EU+ country, it only lists the main country of citizenship/origin. This means I cannot determine how many applicants were Ukrainians.

Thank you for your understanding and I am looking forward to have the broken down information.

Yours sincerely,

Sophia Porto De

Dear Ms Sophia Porto De,

Reference is made to your email of 24 June 2024, whereby you requested the
Agency for additional information related to your Public Access to
Documents request under reference number 003916.

Please note that the Agency does not hold any additional documents coming
within the scope of your public access to documents request and therefore
your email is being handled as a request for information within the
meaning of Article 22 of the European Code of Good Administrative
Behaviour.

In this connection, the Agency notes that the right of access to documents
under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 only concerns existing documents in
accordance with well-established Union case law ^  (see for instance the
judgment of the EU General Court of 2 July 2015 in Case T-214/13, Typke v
Commission). As such, the Agency is not required as such to develop any
new documents or compile information from a number of different documents
in response to your present application.

However, in reply to your request for information, please be informed that
most of the requested information (statistics) is available in the
statistical annexes of the EUAA (former EASO) Asylum Reports.

For example, the 2016 EUAA Report [1]Annual Report on the Situation of
Asylum in the European Union 2015 (europa.eu) presents an annex with the
number of asylum applications lodged in each EU+ country and by the top 15
citizenships of asylum applicants on page 147. Similarly, the annex on
page 156 shows decisions issued at first instance by issuing country and
top 15 citizenships. Syrians are featured as the top first citizenship in
both cases. However, since Ukrainians were not in the top 15 list in 2016,
data for them are not included in the respective annex.

Until last year, statistical data for the EUAA Asylum Report was derived
from dedicated Eurostat database, [2]Database - Eurostat (europa.eu). In
fact, data included in the EUAA Asylum Report always refer to a specific
extraction date as subsequently data may have been revised on Eurostat by
the responsible national authorities. Therefore, we recommend extracting
the relevant data from the Eurostat website, as per the link provided
here-above.

Best regards,

EUAA
