Dear European Parliament,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

I would like to know the following information, for the last five years, broken down annually:

(a) The wine / alcohol bill for the European Council dinners,
(b) The wine / alcohol bill for the European Council meeting which took place between the 17th and the 18th December 2015,
(c) The total cost of dinners provided for attendees of the European council meetings,
(d) The total cost of dinners provided for attendees of the December 2015 European council.

If you need further clarification, please contact me by email. My preferred format to receive the information is electronically, but I can accept hard copies.

Some parts of this request may be easier to answer than others, and in such case I would ask that you release available data as soon as possible rather than delay the entire request.

If FOI requests of a similar nature have been asked already, please include your responses to those requests. If the costs of processing this request exceed the limit in the Act, please advise what information you are able to supply within the cost limit.

I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request. I look forward to your response within 20 working days, as outlined by the statute.

Yours faithfully,

Rob Comley

Conseil européen

Dear M. Comley,

We would like to inform you that your request addressed to the European Parliament was transmitted to the protocol services at the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU.

First of all, We want to draw your attention that regulation 1049/2001 is not applicable in this instance because there are no existing documents on the topics you request.
However, in the interest of transparency and to assist you in your research , we hereby provide the details of costs of the dinner and wines served at the last European Council, which took place on 17 and 18 December 2015.

Regarding wines, We inform you that, for the participants to the European Council's working dinner (39 persons in total), the cost of the 2 wines served is Euro 513,70.
A white wine was served with the starter and a red with the main course.

Regarding the costs incurred for the meals of working dinner, the figure is Euro 6825.

These figures represent an average of what it spent for EC working dinners in recent years, any limited variations being either the number of participants or cost prices of wines served.

We hope this information proves useful to you,

Yours sincerely,
