Dear Mr Nielsen,

The deadline for replying to your application concerning public access to
documents under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 registered on 20/11/2020
expires today, on 11/12/2020.

However, due to the fact that the consultation with the body that manages
the voluntary pension fund is taking longer than expected, in order to
reply to your application Parliament exceptionally needs to extend the
time-limit provided for in Article 7(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 by
a further 15 working days, in accordance with Article 7(3) of the same
regulation.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. We thank you for your
understanding.

Kind regards,

Dear Mr Nielsen,

Further to your application submitted under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001,
Parliament has identified several documents that answer your questions as
follows:

- Questions 1 and 2: to date, there are 955 members in total (including
pensioners, survivors, and deferred pensioners) that have signed up the
European Parliament's Voluntary Pension Fund. Parliament invites you to
consult the information available in the questionnaire concerning
Parliament's 2018 discharge (please see in particular question 109, page
78):

[1]https://www.europarl.europa.eu/cmsdata/1...

Since the document concerns the 2018 discharge, Parliament provides you
below with an updated version of the table already publicly available in
the above document:

Beneficiaries New
already in pensioners
Year pension for the Total
(MEPS+survivors) year (MEPs
only)
2019 790 24 814
2020 814 7 821
2021 821 22 843
2022 843 20 863
2023 863 12 875
2024 875 18 893

- Question 3: For the year 2019 the actuarial deficit was € 328,6 million.
Please see page 24 of annual accounts of European Parliament for financial
year 2019:
[2]https://www.europarl.europa.eu/cmsdata/2...

see also pages 107 and 108 of the questionnaire for Parliament's 2019
discharge:
[3]https://www.europarl.europa.eu/meetdocs/...

- Question 4: Parliament has not identified any documents concerning this
question since investments do not fall within the competences of
Parliament. Parliament only provides technical assistance to the Voluntary
Pension Fund which is an entity with its own legal personality
(Association Sans But Lucratif –ASBL– governed by Luxembourgish Law).
Moreover, a company ("Société d'Investissement Capital Variable" – SICAV)
was formed to deal with the investments of the Voluntary Pension Fund.

On this basis, Parliament considers your application as handled and the
file closed. Should you have any new requests for specific Parliament
documents, please do not hesitate to come back to us.

Kind regards,
