Dear Commissioner Johansson,
It was a pleasure to host you and your team at the Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in
Dublin last week. We appreciate the opportunity to discuss in detail our efforts to fight child
sexual abuse and exploitation. We agree with your assessment that this is a growing concern
that requires an urgent and col ective effort and we are grateful for the priority that you have
given to the fight against child sexual abuse.
We hope that the visit last week has contributed to your understanding of Google’s commitment
to protecting children in a holistic way - our Safety by Design and detection technologies, our
transparency and the
tools we offer to help the ecosystem. Ensuring children can enjoy the best
of what technology has to offer free from abuse is a top priority for Google. We are committed to
work together to ensure the right legal framework is in place to prevent and detect abuse while
encouraging innovation and col aboration. We also want to reiterate our commitment to
col aborate with a future European Center in being a forum for sharing best practices in this
field. We hope this visit was useful and insightful to you and your team as you finalize the
proposed legislation.
We are happy to continue this dialogue with you and your team and to provide any further
information you may find useful.
Kind regards
Amanda Storey
