Irene van den Berg

Dear Defence Industry and Space,

I would like to request access to documents under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 concerning the role of satellite data and private providers in the context of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

In particular, I am interested in the involvement of Airbus and the broader use of commercial Earth observation services.

I kindly request access to the following documents:

1. Any correspondence (including emails, briefings, or meeting notes) between DG DEFIS and Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, or related entities concerning:
- Earth observation services
- deforestation monitoring
- EUDR implementation or related policy discussions

2. Any documents (including reports, briefings, or internal assessments) discussing:
- the role of commercial satellite data providers (such as Airbus) in EU environmental monitoring
- the relationship between Copernicus services and private Earth observation providers
- strategic considerations regarding the use of private vs public satellite data for regulatory purposes

3. Any contracts, procurement documents, or framework agreements involving Airbus or Airbus-affiliated services related to:
- forest monitoring
- environmental compliance
- or EUDR-related applications

4. Any documents assessing risks, dependencies, or strategic implications of relying on private satellite data providers (including Airbus) for EU policy implementation, including EUDR.

5. Any documents referencing specific Airbus platforms or services (including but not limited to 'Starling') in the context of EU environmental monitoring or regulatory compliance.

The timeframe for this request is from 1 January 2020 to the present date.

I remain available to discuss the scope of this request if this would facilitate a more efficient handling.

Kind regards,
Irene van de Berg
