Subject: minutes - meeting of Danish energy association on 14/9/2015
The main points for the Danish Energy Association were:
- Bioenergy is a key renewable energy source for the decarbonisation and energy security of the Danish energy sector
- The Danish energy industry is committed to demonstrate the sustainability of its bioenergy use, through a robust yet pragmatic certification system
- The Danish Agreement on biomass sustainability can provide some useful lessons to the EU debate on this topic
- The Energy Union Framework Strategy announced a revised EU bioenergy sustainability policy for the period post-2020 (i.e. covering in a coherent fashion biomass use in heat, electricity and transport, as well as biofuels and -liquids) - as part of the revised Renewable Energy Package due by the end of 2016.
- Work to assess the various policy options will take into account the experience gained with the implementation of the existing EU biofuels sustainability criteria, and synergies with forthcoming policy initiatives, such as the new Effort Sharing Decision, the new LULUCF Decision, the Communication on the decarbonisation of transport, and the revision of the Energy Efficiency directive
