Corporate devices by OS
Dear Informatics,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I wish to make a request for information. I want to know what share different operating systems have on corporate devices of the European Commission. So, for instance, how many laptops and desktop devices run on Windows, Linux, etc. I was hoping for the same figures in regard to phones and tablets.
Yours faithfully,
Alexander Fanta

Dear Mr Fanta,
We are writing concerning your request for access to Commission documents
registered on 28 July 2025 under case number EASE 2025/3863.
Your request is formulated as a request for information rather than as a
request for documents and cannot be handled under [1]Regulation (EC) No
1049/2001 which applies only to existing documents. Therefore, we have
closed this case.
The requested information is provided herewith under the [2]Code of Good
Administrative Behaviour[3].
The Commission’s Digital WorkPlace environment is a highly standardized
working environment. We use the technologies that are best suited for our
corporate use cases. This means that more than 95% of our managed
computers are laptops, and only a small minority are desktop devices. We
run Windows, Linux and Mac OS on those devices, depending on the use case.
Roughly 85% of the workplace devices run Windows, about 15% run Linux, and
a small minority run Mac OS. For mobile devices (phones, tablets), we
mostly use iPhones and iPads, with android devices representing a small
percentage of overall devices.
Kind regards,
DIGIT Access to documents team
