Unit G-4: Official Controls
Dear Peter Bokor, DG SANTE,
I thank you for your kind and detailed answer and I hereby clarify a few points of my initial request, as suggested.
For the other types of beef byproducts imported from Brazil, I meant the following categories: - 1 Bones and horn-cores; 2 Fats of bovine animals; 3 Tanned or crust hides and skins. Thus, I kindly request, if available to your unit, any aggregated or disaggregated European import data from Brazil for these categories of byproducts.
I also take this opportunity to ask you to clarify a point in your answer on the lack of certification on the sex of the animal:
- are there then any European controls in place to ascertain that no female beef meat has been effectively imported?
- is it possible to review the documentation through which the Brazilian competent authorities "have indicated to DG SANTE that, since 23 January 2025, no meat from female animals has been exported to the EU"?
Yours faithfully,
Gabriele Di Donfrancesco
