Democracy in Catalunya
Dear European Parliament,
As far as I know there is a sentence from Den Hague court in september 20th, 1999, stating that no law or constitution prevales in front of the fundamental human right about voting or express any idea, and specially using force justified in laws against this.
This is what spaninsh State is doing in Catalunya.
You have the document.
Why UE are doing nothing?
Fundamental human rights are not vàlid for some eurepoans citizens?
Yours faithfully,
Sergi Pages

Dear Mr Pages,
The Citizens’ Enquiries Unit of the European Parliament (EP) has been
asked to reply to your request for information.
Please note that the document you request is not a document of the
European Parliament but the United Nations. Please consult their
[1]website for further information or contact them directly. More
information regarding the court case is available on the [2]International
Court of Justice’s website.
With regard to Catalonia, we would inform you that Members of the European
Parliament and the European Commission discussed the ‘[3]Constitution,
rule of law and fundamental rights in Spain in the light of the events in
Catalonia’ on Wednesday 4 October. You may wish to watch the plenary
debate through the ‘[4]EPTV’ section of the European Parliament’s website.
In a [5]declaration at the end of the debate, the President of the
European Parliament, Mr Antonio Tajani, stated:
‘I would like to thank the European Commission, the guardian of the
Treaties, for the clear position it expressed in this chamber.
In the light of the debate that has just taken place and to summarise the
position expressed by a majority in this Parliament, I would like to
highlight some key elements.
As the history of the European Union teaches us, in democracy, the only
way forward is to work together for harmony and unity.
No one took lightly the events that took place on Sunday. However,
unilateral decisions, including declarations of independence from a
sovereign state, are contrary to the European legal order and bound to
provoke dangerous divisions.
From this Parliament, there is a call for calm and profound deliberation,
which will encourage dialogue in Spain while respecting the constitutional
framework, including the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia, and which will
return politics to the institutions.’
Furthermore, the European Commission made a statement on 2 October
concerning the events in Catalonia. The statement can be consulted on the
following [6]webpage.
We thank you for contacting the European Parliament.
Yours sincerely,
Citizens' Enquiries Unit
