Press, European Border and Coast Guard Agency

Dear Mr Plaut,

Thank you for contacting Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard
Agency.

Please be informed that your PAD request [PAD-2025-00115] constitutes a
request for information and was forwarded to the Communications Office for
further handling.

The activities to which you refer (T05-EUTF-NOA-LY-04) were carried out by
IOM in Libya in the framework of “Support to Integrated border and
migration management in Libya” in partnership with the Italian Ministry of
the Interior. Accordingly, we suggest that you inquire about the progress
of the project with the above-mentioned IOM and the Italian Ministry of
Interior.

We would also like to make it clear that Frontex is not present in Libya
and does not cooperate with the Libyan authorities in any capacity.

Frontex can only launch operational activities outside the EU once a
Status Agreement between the European Union and the respective non-EU
country has been concluded.

The negotiations on the Status Agreement are led by the European
Commission on behalf of the European Union. Currently there is no such a
Status Agreements with Libya in place.

We hope it clarifies.

Kind regards,

Frontex Communications Office
