Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

 
My name is Elpida Vamvaka, and I submit this request on behalf of the Greek civil society organization Homo Digitalis, in my capacity as President of the Board of Directors.
 
Homo Digitalis is a leading civil society organization based in Athens, Greece, with a well-established track record in monitoring technology-driven border management practices. We are also a proud member of the European Digital Rights (EDRi) network.
 
We are aware that the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) is a framework designed to enhance information exchange and cooperation between Member States and Frontex, with the goal of improving situational awareness and reaction capabilities at the EU’s external borders. A central objective of EUROSUR is the protection of human life, particularly in the Mediterranean Sea. Frontex coordinates EUROSUR Fusion Services, sharing intelligence gathered from satellites, drones (including those operated by the European Maritime Safety Agency), and other surveillance technologies such as those utilized by the EU Satellite Centre, with Member States.
 
Through this request, Homo Digitalis seeks to obtain further information regarding EUROSUR operations in the Mediterranean Sea between 01.06.2025 and 4.06.2025, specifically in relation to the vessel Madleen. This vessel is part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition mission to Gaza and departed from the Italian port of Catania on June 1, 2025, aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza following a previous attempt that was thwarted by a drone attack on a different ship in the same region.
 
In light of multiple reports and testimonies circulating on social media in recent days referencing drone activity near the Madleen, and bearing in mind EUROSUR’s stated mission of safeguarding human life at sea, we kindly request clarification as to whether any drone operations or other surveillance activities conducted under EUROSUR have been used to ensure the safety of the Madleen during its passage through the Mediterranean within the EUROSUR area of responsibility.
 
Given the distress caused by previous drone attacks on past missions, we fully understand the concern and anxiety such drone presence may cause among the Madleen’s crew and passengers.
 
Therefore, we respectfully ask the following:
Have drones and/or satellites operating under EUROSUR or any other EU border surveillance mechanisms been active in the area through which the Madleen was traveling between 01.06.2025 and 4.06.2025?
If so, we kindly request to know the country of origin of these aerial surveillance assets. In particular, we would like to confirm whether any of the drones involved were operated by, originated from, or provided by the State of Israel.

 
We would greatly appreciate any relevant documents or data that could help provide clarity on this matter.
