French banks and the exclusion of financial entities from CSDDD
Dear Secretariat General of the European Commission,
The Article 36(1) of the Directive (EU) 2024/1760, also known as the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), specifies that the European Commission should prepare a report on "the necessity of laying down additional sustainability due diligence requirements tailored to regulated financial undertakings with respect to the provision of financial services and investment activities, and the options for such due diligence requirements as well as their impacts, in line with the objectives of this Directive."
The European Commission has started this report and has asked for and received evidences supporting or opposing these "additional rules".
Please note that under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting the following documents:
(1) Any document shared to the European Commission by large French financial entities and/or their employees since July 2024. The documents must come from the following entities: Amundi, AXA, BNP Paribas, BPCE, Crédit Agricole, Fédération bancaire française, Société Générale and MEDEF.
(2) A list of the meetings held between members of the European Commission and/or its staff and the above-mentioned entities where the Article 36(1) of the Directive (EU) 2024/1760 was discussed
With my full consideration,
Yours faithfully,
Olivier Guérin
