Inflation-adjustment of €100,000 deposit guarantee

Peter made this access to documents request to Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Madam, Sir,

Directive 2014/49/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 April 2014 on deposit guarantee schemes has determined that member states must ensure that 100,000 euro per depositor is covered in case deposits are unavailable.

Article 6.6 says: "The amount referred to in paragraph 1 [i.e. 100,000 euro] shall be reviewed periodically by the Commission and at least once every five years. If appropriate, the Commission shall submit to the European Parliament and to the Council a proposal for a Directive to adjust the amount referred to in paragraph 1, taking account in particular of developments in the banking sector and the economic and monetary situation in the Union. The first review shall not take place before 3 July 2020 unless unforeseen events necessitate an earlier review."

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:

All documents - including but not limited to minutes, (hand-written) notes, audio recordings, verbatim reports, operational conclusions, lines to take, briefings, e-mails, letters, presentations, reports, (draft) delegated acts and inter-service consultations - related to the periodic review(s) mentioned in Article 6.6 of Directive 2014/49/EU.

Only digital copies are required, please consider the environment by not sending me any physical mail.

I am of course available to clarify my request further if needed.

Sincerely
Peter Teffer
