A report from the conference for Ares:

CM attended a lunch with invited guest from Swedish and French companies. The president of the chambre de commerce welcomed the queen and the guests. He explained the history of the house.

 The queen also thanked Paris/France for continuing after the Paris attacks.

The conference was organised for the centenary of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in France.

Commissioner Malmström gave the keynote speech, on EU trade strategy. The Moderator asked questions about the impact of recent attacks on trade policy/multilateralism, difficulties between short term and long term priorities. CM underlined the link between trade and development.  Took VN and EGA as examples.

CM then was interviewed by a Swedish journalist.

Emmanuel Macron concluded the discussions with a good pro-European speech.

- He recalled the five pillars of France competitiveness strategy: fiscal consolidation, cost competitiveness (underlining that French unit labour cost is now lower than in Germany), non cost competitiveness (based on innovative disruption and private investment), modernisation of products and services markets (cut barriers in transport, energy, mobility to accelerate innovation and globalisation), modernisation of labour markets.

- He underlined the political risks faced in Sweden by the debate about refugees and France by terrorism, and the need for all countries to take their share of the burden. He recalled that in view of global challenges solutions cannot be national; Europe is the best possible answer. Political leaders must explain the complexity of the situation and not repeat the mistakes of the past. Europe is a necessity: not about economics only but also about politics.

The Commissioner met minister Macron bilaterally, at his request. They talked about TTIP, CETA, China.
