Title
EU FOREST STRATEGY MEETING WITH CEPF
Date

Issues raised
& follow-up
The data about the state of forests is incomplete and not properly referenced -
the national forest inventories are a key source of information
There is an unbalanced approach related to sustainable forest management –
MS competence on forest management is not considered in the FS
The support to forest owners is not comprehensive – the tools proposed are
not enough. Support is not only financial, it is also political (this complexity is
not taken into consideration, so the support is not adequate in this sense)
Regarding whole trees: there is complexity in forest management, going by
diameter does not make sense (there are other important criteria: the quality,
the location etc)
About draft provisions of REDII: Two concerns: regarding the limit of 5MW and
the no-go area.
Alexander Bachler, Austrian Chamber of Agriculture:
-
Stressed the importance of re-organizing our forests from fine wood to more
hard wood; there should exist opportunities to use it economically
