Participants: EU-China Business Association (EUCBA)
Minutes of the meeting:
EVP Dombrovskis made a speech on EU-China trade relations (which was also published on the same
day).
He recalled the very challenging year of 2022 for the EU in view of Russia’s aggression against
Ukraine. He also mentioned China’s ambiguity concerning the war and that this influences the
debates about the bilateral relationship. He then recalled the importance of the trade and economic
ties, the common interest to work together on global economic and trade challenges, and the need
to improve fairness and reciprocity to ensure a more balanced trade relationship.
EUCBA members asked questions about EU and US policies regarding trade with China, including the
US’ technology restrictions. They also asked about the stalemate with the EU-China Comprehensive
Agreement on Investment, and the prospects for the future reform of the World Trade Organisation.
The EVP explained the Commission’s current positions and updated the EUCBA members on the
latest policy developments by referring to the main EU policy actions in those areas.
